Dr. Emilie C. Harris
Dr. Harris, or Dr. Cay, joined Westside Veterinary Hospital 21 years ago in 1993. She is very happy to have been serving this community and watching the practice quadruple in size. Her interests in the practice are with geriatrics and dermatology.
Although born in Huntsville, she lived in several states, Mississippi, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky and Tennessee. After graduation from high school in Kentucky, she attended Mississippi State University and received a BS in Animal Science and her DVM. She recently enjoyed her 30th reunion from MSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
After graduation from Veterinary school, Dr. Cay worked in several clinics before settling in North, Alabama; she now resides in Hartselle. At the present time, she lives with Tatum and Cammi, two Pomeranians; Gracie, an African Gray parrot that is 40 years old; Smokey Edna a gray and white cat and bantam chickens.
Dr. Cay is a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church, and has participated on mission trips most recently to Costa Rica. She loves to travel and has been several foreign countries including Panama, Canada, Japan and China and most of the 50 states. She also frequently visits Mississippi to visit her brother and to cheer on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Dr. Andy Wilks
Dr. Andy Wilks joined the team at Westside Veterinary Hospital in 2000 after working for a veterinary hospital in Boaz for two years. He enjoys helping our clients manage the care of their pets, and has a special interest in companion animal medicine, orthopedic surgery, laser surgery, small ruminant (goats and alpacas) and equine medicine.
Dr. Wilks is a fourth generation native of Arab and enjoys living on the family farm and working in his hometown. He is a 1987 graduate of Arab High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business and Economics in 1992, and then graduated Cum Laude with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, both from Auburn University.
He is an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church and plays the rhythm guitar in a bluegrass gospel group called Canaan’s Crossing, which is currently on the recording label “Song Garden” and has been nominated for numerous music award. They travel regionally and perform at concerts and churches.
Dr. Wilks enjoys the company of Derby, an exuberant Boxer.
Dr. Dixie Mahan
Dr. Dixie Mahan joined the Westside team in 2007. She enjoys the challenge of providing care and surgery to both small and large animals.
A native and current resident of Lacey Springs, Ala., Dr. Mahan is a 1999 graduate of Brewer High School. She attended Judson College and completed her Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in the spring of 2003. She continued her education at Auburn University where she received the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in spring 2007.
Dr. Mahan is a Christian who loves spending time with her family including her mother, sister, and two brothers. She also enjoys the company of her beloved pets, Sue Ellen, an Old English bulldog mix; Lucy a Boxer mix and Freddy a silver tabby cat.
She is an avid sports fan who played basketball, volleyball, and softball in high school and continued to play both basketball and softball while attending college.
